In a direct attack on the BJP's poster boy, the actor-turned-politician said if popularity was any criteria then Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan should have been the President of India.
His jibe was aimed at the BJP leadership that has time and again justified Modi's elevation on the ground that he was the most popular leader of the country.
Often referred to as Bihari Babu, the Lok Sabha member from Patna said that by making Modi the BJP's campaign committee head the party diluted many important issues, including scams and inflation.
Backing BJP patriarch L.K. Advani for the top political job of the country, Sinha said he was the best person for prime minister's post.
Sinha had earlier called Modi's bete noire - Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar - as the best "prime ministerial material" and had even offered to bridge the differences between his party Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and BJP and reunite the former allies.
While criticising his own party and colleagues, Sinha had even praised Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Thursday.
