Johnny Depp adopted by Native American tribe and named Mah-Woo-Meh

Johnny Depp has revealed that he was adopted by a Comanche tribe member, LaDonna Harris, and was given the name, Mah-Woo-Meh, in a private naming ritual.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star told the Sun that the moniker, the tribe chose for him, means shape-shifter.  The 50-year-old actor asserted that the name is apt and he takes great pride in the choice.

He told the publication that being adopted, what it means and what it’s meant since that day, has given him so much in his life.

Depp, who will be playing the role of Tonto in his upcoming flick, ‘The Lone Ranger’, prepared for the character by immersing himself in the traditions of the Comanche tribe, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
