KOLKATA: Ramakrishna Mission has decided to rehabilitate thousands left homeless by nature's fury at Uttarakhand.
"We will build homes for the people who have lost everything in the catastrophe," said Swami Suvirananda, assistant secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission today.
"The focus at present is on the rescue of the thousands trapped in inaccessible areas and to arrange food and other basic amenities for them," he added. Swami Gopalananda, the relief in-charge said, monks from Kanthal in Haridwar are already involved in rescue work. Besides, a medical team and 4 monks from the city have also been sent to assist them.
A relief camp at Agastya Muni, about 25 kilometres from Rudra Prayag, has been set up by the mission where the rescued people are being provided with food and shelter. "After rescue work, the third priority would be to re-built the houses washed away in the flash floods," he added.
The mission has also made an appeal to those willing to stand beside the victims of the disaster.
"We request generous citizens to come forward and donate liberally, to help us in this noble endeavour. All donations paid in cash or by cheque/demand draft to be drawn in favour of "RAMAKRISHNA MISSION" payable at Kolkata are exempt from income tax under section 80-G of the IT Act.
